  • Old English ?c; related to Old Norse eik, Old High German eih, Latin aesculus. An oak or an oak tree is a large tree that often grows in woods and forests and has strong, hard wood. In furniture, it has traditionally been used in solid wood in Western Europe, mainly in England, the Netherlands and France. In the latter it is typical of veneered furniture frames. In England, traditional English scholarship calls the traditional furniture of the Renaissance and Baroque periods
