Definition
- It refers to the processes and techniques that consist of treating and preparing the skin obtained from a dead animal for its use. It is an irreversible process of treating hides or skins with tannins to produce leather. The objective is to prevent its decomposition and, secondly, to transform it into a flexible and durable material to be used in various manufactures. Tanning fixes the collagen in the connective tissue, irreversibly transforming it.
