Definition
- Padded upholstery, which consists of padding a surface with a soft material. The padding is placed directly on the wooden panel, or on a framework of webbing and a strong base fabric; another fabric is usually stretched over it and, on top of this, the decorative upholstery. Seating with a wadded structure developed from the Renaissance onwards and became more common from the mid-18th century onwards.
