Definition
- n. mistaken division (as if an apron) of earlier a napron, from Old French naperon a little cloth, from nape cloth, from Latin mappa napkin. An ornamental rail that acts as a structural part of furniture, joining certain parts to others and ornamenting the frame of a piece of furniture. In tables, for example, the piece that joins the legs, just below the tabletop; in chairs, below the seat; in cupboards, it is arranged along the base, etc.
