Definition
- A pine tree or a pine is a tall tree which has very thin, sharp leaves and a fresh smell. Pine trees have leaves all year round. In furniture, it is a frequent wood in Castile, especially in solid wood; in quality furniture, it is used in the secondary and rear parts, when the views are of a richer species, being combined in particular with walnut wood: for example, it appears in drawers and shelves of desks, bed crosspieces, sideboard interiors, etc. It has also been used as a base for veneered furniture. The most prized wood is that of the black pine, called until the 19th century the Cuenca pine and, in the 20th century, the "melis" pine. It has been dyed to simulate other woods, especially walnut, in bed frames, desks, etc. It was also patent leather. Pine wood was widely used in Spain and Germany from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance as a support for panel painting and in the manufacture of altarpieces.
