Note

  • The term 'rock' is usually used as a generic name to designate any rock that has undergone a decrease in size, either naturally or by washing, without any scientific classification criteria (composition, formation, etc.). The term has also been used to refer to the product made and finished from a rock, as well as to various minerals used for ornamental purposes (precious stones, hard stones). Stones have been used by man since the most remote Antiquity for different purposes: as working tools (lithic industry), as a construction material (in their natural state or in their natural state), as well as a support* for writing and sculpture.
