Definition
- Lamps with a relatively short foot that make them suitable for standing on tables and other furniture. The term referred to late 18th-century lamps designed for burning whale oil and burning fluid compounds, which generally retain the traditional divisions at the top, stem and foot and often resemble standing cups of the same period.
