Sofa with a central plan, circular, oval or polygonal, for the centre of a room. Its centre may be decorated with a jardinière, a sculpture or a skylight holder. Although there are neoclassical antecedents, this piece of furniture was not developed until the 1920s. Throughout the 19th century, in all its various forms, it was still called the ottoman.
