Holm oak

Definition

  • Holm oak is a well-known hardwood around the Mediterranean Sea, where it is one of the most abundant species. Its scientific name is Quercus ilex. It is a very hard and heavy wood, porous, light reddish brown. It is often compared to oak wood. However, its quality is not good. The uses of this type of wood are varioust, used basically for its resistance. Much of its use has been made of oak in architectural structures. Its fruit, the acorn, has been used as an amulet.
