Fly table

Definition

  • A small, lightweight, sometimes folding table that is easy to move and is mainly used for serving breakfast. There are many models such as nesting or wing tables with slender folding feet or legs that can be considered variants of this group. The use of candlesticks, candleholders and folding tables became widespread during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. In the 18th century, tea and coffee tables appeared, and in the French Rococo period, multi-compartment tables such as sewing, writing and dressing tables became prominent. The term "side table" is the one we use today, but in the 19th century the term "table volante" or "portable table" was used.
