- De langl. aluminium, modificació de aluminum, creat el 1812 pel físic H. Davy com a der. savi, del ll. al?men alum. Metall lleuger, tenaç, dúctil i mal·leable, i posseeix color i lluentor similars als de la plata. Ha sigut separat en 1825 i produït industrialment amb finalitats comercials a mitjan segle XIX. Va ser molt *empelado en el disseny industrial.
