Chests of drawers

Definición

  • It refers to a low, square or box-shaped piece of furniture, with drawers that occupy the entire width of the cabinet, or with smaller drawers paired under the top and which may or may not have legs. The term is of French origin, and became widespread from the reign of Louis XIV onwards. The piece of furniture we know today as a chest of drawers was formulated in France on the basis of the drawer units of the Baroque period. There are many types, sometimes combined with other pieces of furniture such as display cabinets or shelves. Chests of drawers can be used as a decorative ensemble in living rooms and bedrooms, but also in other rooms of the house.
