Definición

  • Old English elm; related to Old Norse almr, Old High German elm, Latin ulmus. The elm (Ulmus minor) is a tree of the Ulmaceae family. It grows in Europe, northern and western Asia and northern America. It is a strong, durable, brownish-brown wood of the genus Ulmus. s It has a pinkish-brown sapwood and reddish-brown heartwood. It is hard and heavy, medium grained, very resistant to water. It has been used for marquetry, especially mottled, in solid wood and for lathe work. It is very common in English provincial furniture for seating, as well as for axe handles, yokes, wheels, weapons, coffins, ship frames and gymnasium equipment.
