Bulrush

Definición

  • Bulrish, bul- perhaps from bull1 + rish rush2, referring to the largeness of the plant; sense 2 derived from the famous painting by Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema (1836–1912), Dutch-born English painter, of the finding of the infant Moses in the "bulrushes" — actually reed mace. The bulrush (Scirpus lacustris) is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Typhaaceae family, growing in marshy sites, with cylindrical, knotless stems, ensiform leaves and flowers in the form of a massive, hairy spike. The stems and leaves of the bulrush are used in various manufactures, especially for making baskets and popular chair seats.
