Chestnut
Definición
- It is an American tree (C. dentata) that was formerly a dominant or codominant member of many deciduous forests of the eastern U.S. but has now been largely eliminated by the chestnut blight and seldom grows beyond the shrub or sapling stage. It grows in humid and temperate areas of southern Europe (north-west and Cantabrian slopes in Spain, France, etc.), western Asia and North Africa. It is a durable wood and easy to work with. It is very similar to oak, but is distinguished from it by the lack of spandrels. It has been used as a construction timber and in joinery furniture and in luxury and fine furniture structures because of its good polish, and is used for general construction, framing, fencing, posts, barrels, and veneers.
