Definición
- n. from French balustre, from Italian balaustro pillar resembling a pomegranate flower, ultimately from Greek balaustion. Short vertical members used to support a stair handrail or coping, often circular in section with a vase-shaped outline. It consists of a foot, a belly or bulging part, made of different shapes. They are made of stone, wood or iron and come in a variety of shapes. They support and form the railings and parapets of balconies, roofs, stairways and corridors.
