It refers to a type of furniture with a low surface to support the knees and a high surface to rest the arms on. It acts as a prayer cabinet.It may be fitted with a desk-like support for opening prayer books and, sometimes, a compartment for storing them. There are those for kneeling only and those that are combined with a seat. They can be found in private chambers, including chapels, bedrooms and studies. By extension, they are also known as kneeling furniture.
