Definición

  • New Latin, from eu- + Greek kaluptos covered, from kaluptein to cover, hide. Wood from trees belonging to the genus Eucalyptus, native to Australia, New Zealand, Tasmania and nearby islands, used for fencing, construction, pulp, cheap furniture and small turned items such as brush parts. Eucalyptus wood is a highly resistant wood, suitable even for outdoors, but difficult to work. It arrived in Spain in the mid-19th century and is widely spread. This tree is also used for reforestation due to its relatively fast growth. It is easily recognisable due to the strips of bark. The heartwood is pale brown, almost yellow. The sapwood is light or pale grey.
