Definición

  • rom Old French almarie, from Medieval Latin alm?rium, from Latin arm?rium chest for storage, from arma arms. Medieval term for cupboards, usually built-in, with doors and shelves, where several objects such as crockery are kept either as a niche in the wall or free-standing in various sizes. It can be a piece of furniture, hanging or self-supporting. It is closed with glass or doors, often opened by balusters or lattices to ventilate the interior. Originally it used to be in any room, but from the 18th century onwards only in rural houses it remained in the reception area, while in urban houses it was relegated to the kitchen.
